Updates from Elizabeth – Oct 7, 2024

Good afternoon team and welcome to Monday!

I’m writing to share an update with you on a few items.

Jannelle Snowden has provided notice that she will be leaving VAA to pursue another work opportunity. Being new to VAA last year, she was instrumental in getting me settled into my role and the Board and I will miss her efficient support and strong organizational skills. While this is disappointing news, I hope you will join me in wishing Jannelle the very best as she continues to pursue her career aspirations and growth. Jannelle’s last day will be October 18th. Recruitment will begin immediately. If there are any interested internal candidates, please reach out to me or Michelle for further information.

In other staffing news, I want to remind everyone that Lars Olsson steps into the acting VP Operations role, effective yesterday, October 6th. Lars has already participated in his first board committee meetings – what a way to start! To support this move, Kyle Martin will be shifting to acting Director, Airside Operations and Safety. Thank you and congratulations to both Lars and Kyle, I look forward to working with you in these interim roles!

I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to René Sheïr for his exceptional support acting in the VP Operations role for the past 3 months and the MIOC team for all the work and support provided to Rene as he moved into the acting VP role. Your presence and input on the senior leadership team during this time has been very valuable. Thank you!

Some of the feedback that has come back to my office has been… “Ok, so now we have core values, now what?” A very good question and we certainly don’t want to lose sight of this important work completed by the entire organisation on the core values project.  While as a senior team we have some ideas to bring the values forward into our daily work lives, we would like to ask for a few volunteers to share their thoughts and input into opportunities to weave and integrate our new VAA Values into the organization and how we do our work. It’s extremely important to be consistent and intentional in these efforts so that they become second nature to us. This could include incorporating into our physical spaces, recognition efforts, team meetings/events, etc. If you’re interested, please reach out to Michelle or myself.

Thank you everyone and as always, if you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me anytime.
